| WHEN YOU STARTED RUNNING | Fall ’82 with high school cross country- a short 26 years ago. |
| WHY YOU STARTED RUNNING | My high school only offered two Fall sports- I obviously did not have the size for football at 110 lbs so I followed in one of my brother’s footsteps and
joined cross country. |
| PRs: | 2 Mile - 10:55 5K - 17:10 10K - 35:41 15K - 56:12 Half Marathon - 1:20:59 Marathon - 2:55:15 |
| RUNNING GOALS |
Keep healthy, consistent, and competitive while having fun along the way. |
| FAVORITE DISTANCES |
10K, 15K, and Half Marathon |
| FAVORITE RACES |
Easy answer here- having completed 22 of them- The Utica Boilermaker; my first marathon- Chicago(’05) and first Boston in ’06 were special; I enjoy the 15K in Vorheesville on Memorial Day weekend and the fall half marathons of Lake Placid and HMRRC U.S. Marine Corps. Although I am not a big fan of 5K or under, it would be great if they brought back The Run for New York(2 mile) which was so popular in the 1990’s. |
| NEXT GOAL RACE |
Vermont City Marathon- May 24. |
| FAVORITE RUNNING BOOK |
Better Runs by Joe Henderson |
| FAVORITE NON-RUNNING BOOK |
The Outsiders(S E Hinton), Reason to Believe(Mario Cuomo), Outrage(Vincent Bugliosi), The Teammates(David Halberstam), and Tuesdays with Morrie(Mitch Albom). |
| FAVORITE MOVIE |
The Breakfast Club and as a Red Sox fan, Fever Pitch |
| WHAT DO YOU CHERISH THE MOST? |
My family, friends, and my health. |
| WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE IF THEY KNEW ABOUT YOU |
As I teenage kid, I wanted to be either a magician or a sports announcer when I grew up. |
| WHY DO YOU RUN? | I enjoy pushing myself and others in a sport that challenges you mentally and physically. I enjoy the competition and sense of accomplishment and that running allows me to
keep fit. |
| WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF COACH JIM THE FIRST TIME YOU MET HIM |
I thought I was small. |
| WHAT YOU THINK OF COACH JIM NOW | Kathleen is going to have some good genes. |
| WHY TEAM UTOPIA? | It is a great group to train and compete with. We make each other better and support each other in reaching our goals. We have a good time inside and outside of running and
we have a true cast of characters to keep it all interesting and fun. |
| FAVORITE RUNNING MEMORY | Each and every Boilermaker and its post race party. My first half marathon finish in Quebec City(’03) and Chicago Marathon(’05) gave me a great sense of
accomplishment. |
| LEAST FAVORITE RUNNING MEMORY | When I turned 40 and had to deal with the badly bruised ribs mishap followed by a tibia stress fracture and who could forget the infamous appendectomy to further sideline me.
Specifically, I can’t forget hitting the Great Wall of China at mile 25 in Boston ’06 and then taking 12:20 to ‘run’ the last 1.2 miles. |
